Predigested trajectories might smell after a while, but must be quite more easy to develop. What Blackcompany suggest might be more complicated to build up. I had the same feeling when I first discovered Skyrim. The story missions are too tightly scripted to make them enjoyable on subsequent runs while the free roaming througout the country is a pure joy for me that doesn't tarry with time. The first time I went as a farmer plowing fields, raising chickens and selling grain. Focus more on game play and less on narrative and scripted missions. I have twice travelled to Montana in the good old US of A this year. Instead, Ubi insists on shoving their awful mission design and terrible writing down your throat, making every play through - and pretty much every one of their games - nearly identical in the process. It would be dynamic, with no two playthroughs exactly the same. You would then make your way through the world, gathering clues, talking to people and unlocking unformation about the big bads.
It would be entirely possible for Ubi to offer a quick setup cinematic, then task you with finding and taking down the big bads. You would just be in the role of a minor npc, doing little to resist the peggies and just be a small nuisance to them with no allies to help you out.
